ALTITUDE SIMULATION SYSTEM

The Altitude Simulation/Pressure Control System is used for most engine tests, including power and emissions for both steady state and transient dynamic test applications.
 
ETC’s Altitude Simulation System is a uniquely designed system where high altitude conditions are simulated at the engine induction air side and exhaust side. The Altitude Simulation System includes a combustion air unit, which provides air at precisely controlled environmental conditions and a pressure control unit, where a controlled pressure drop of the engine intake air is generated using a valve and vacuum blower system. Similarly, the reduced pressure conditions are created for the engine exhaust. ETC’s Altitude Simulation System is considerably more cost-effective than altitude chambers, which have gained the attention of the racing industries, heavy duty diesel and many automotive original equipment manufacturers and tier suppliers. New vehicle design and performance verification requires extensive testing where the performance verification is done under extreme environmental conditions with stringent accuracy and repeatability. ETC’s Altitude Simulation System satisfies the Environmental Protection Agency’s NTE emissions envelope.
 
The Altitude/Pressure Control System performs tests at the following conditions:

  • Altitude Simulation – Sea level to 30,000 ft. (±100 ft.)

  • Boost pressure simulation up to 3 psi above barometric pressure (± 0.01 psi)

  • Optional pressure control configuration designed to deal with drafting and other engine air intake velocity variations

  • Precisely controlled environmental conditions through the use of a Combustion Air Unit

  • Modular components providing easy installation in existing spaces

  • Easily adapted – retrofit existing chambers or test cells

  • Repeatable test results
