AninvestigationwasmadetoevaluatethecapacityofanelectronicnoseE-nose,PEN2toclassifytheteaqualitygrade.FourteagroupsA120,A280,A380andA600withadifferentqualitygradewereemployed.Intheexperiment,thevolumeofvialandtheheadspacegeneratedtimewereconsideredcorrespondingtothe5gteasamples,andtheoptimumexperimentalprocedurewasdeterminedbyusingthevarianceanalysisANOVA,multivarianceanalysisandprinciplecomponentsanalysisPCA.Theresultsshowedthatthevolumeofvialaffectedtheresultofdiscrimination,andtheheadspacegeneratedtimehadnosigni?canteffectontheE-noseresponse.ThefourteagroupsweremeasuredandresponsevaluesatfourdifferentcollectiontimeswereconductedbyPCA,lineardiscriminationanalysisLDAandarti?cialneuralnetworkANN.OnlyA120,A380andA600couldbediscriminatedbyPCA.However,thefourteagroupswerediscriminatedcompletelybyLDA.TheresponsevalueoftheE-noseat60swasoptimumtobeusedfordiscrimination.ThemethodofANNnetworktopology20-12-4wasperformedand90%oftheotalteasampleswereclassi?edcorrectlybyusingtheback-propagationneuralnetwork.?2006ElsevierB.V.Allrightsreserved.
